Diet Guide for Heart Patients

Heart patients must have a diet to maintain their heart. The National Cholesterol Education Program of the National Institute of Health (NIH) recommends the Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet. With dieting, it should involve plenty of rest, living a reduced-stress life, and taking your medication. The main target of any diet plan for heart patients is to reduce intake of saturated fat which increases cholesterol.

Here are 5 things you should know for your diet after your surgery:

1. Have variety: In order to remain healthy after your heart surgery, you need to make sure you have plenty of variety in your diet. All kinds of fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, whole wheat breads should be on your menu.

2. Food for lowering blood pressure: Blood pressure can be dangerous if it crosses the normal level. It is often referred to as silent killer. Foods that lower blood pressure must be taken.

3. Follow a correct intake of sodium: High-sodium diets are the main cause of heart problems. It is absolutely necessary; that you keep your sodium intake as low as possible.

4. Reduce your sugar intake: Sugar also is very harmful, so avoid products with syrup and other sugars.

5. Eat the right food: Make sure to eat foods such as green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, whole wheat breads, and onions and garlic.

6. Avoid unhealthy foods: Make sure you avoid these foods when you diet whole milk, red meats, oils, deep-fried foods, sugar, and ice cream.

The above are the some of the diet tips for heart patients. Understand the value of your health, maintain it properly, have always balanced diet. Give up alcohol and cigarettes, and exercise properly. If you cannot look after your health then nobody is responsible; you are only responsible.
